What's the best IDE to SATA conversion device to use?
My situation is that I just bought a pc that takes SATA drives only and I want to connect my IDE hard drive without having any issues at all. I understand it won't have optimal performance. It will not be a permanent thing, just to leave in my pc until I get another slave SATA hard drive.
I've read around that the USB IDE to SATA was one of the best things to use since the transfer rate was high, along side with the PCI card and hooking up the IDE device to it to work. I also read to stay away from those IDE to SATA adapters as some don't work and are weird to deal with in the tower.
If possible, give me some brands to go with. I don't want to spend too much but I don't want to get something that'd mess up within the first week.
It sounds to me that it might be best to buy an external drive enclose (IDE) so that you can hook it up temporarily. You can then plug it in USB and not have to worry about internal add on cards.
You can find IDE enclosures for pretty cheap. I use http://newegg.com for my hardware purchases. Also, as far as hard drive, I am a fan of Seagate. Most brands have a 5 yr warranty, but Seagate and Western Digital are the two biggest companies, and probably the best. I would stay away from other brands of drives.
As far as the brand of enclosure. I don't believe it really matters what brand, as long as the price is right for you, and it works..
