The PS Jailbreak - The First PS3 Modchip Lets Your Install And Play Games From Your Hard Drive.
No one thought it would ever happen, but it has. The PS Jailbreak has arrived. Or as some call it the PS3 Jailbreak and PS3 Modchip. It consists of a USB dongle that needs to always be inserted into your PS3 console and then it will let you install games to your PS3 hard drive and also load the games from the PS3 hard drive as well.
It works, or rather, installs, just like the USB modchip for the PS2. No wiring, and no soldering. While the USB mod for the Playstation 2 was somewhat limited in what it could do, the PS Jailbreak is not.
The PS jailbreak appears to be a similar solution. A quick plug in of the USB dongle gets your Playstation3 ready. You also need to have another flash disk drive plugged into the USB port (And USB Stick will do) in order to install your homebrew games and applications as well as the backup manager.
There were a lot of people that really didn't think that a modchip for the PS3 was possible, never mind one would ever be released even if it were.
The thing that amazes me however is not so much the modchip, but that it can be installed and used as easily as it can be. No soldering or wiring at all, and you don't need some engineering degree to figure out where to put it..
To be honest, if we look at any of the modchips for the PS2 or even the original Xbox, they all needed soldering of wires inside the console itself, in some cases as many as 25 or more wires had to be soldered to tiny points on the motherboard for the modchip to do what it was meant to do. Thankfully you don't have to worry about this with the PS Jailbreak at all. Just plug it in and play. All you really need to do is be able to plug a USB dongle into a USB port, and you're done.
Along with the USB Dongle, you also get the included backup managr software, and this piece of software is what does the work once the dongle is plugged in. After you've installed the dongle, you also have to install a piece of software called the Backup Manager, don't worry - it's included with the PS Jailbreak from what I can tell.
Once the backup manager is installed on to the menu of the PS3, any time you insert a game disc, it will ask you if you wish to install it on to the PS3 hard drive. you choose YES, then you'll see the game install right before your eyes, and also see the progress of the installation just like any firmware update would show you how much time is needed or how much of the game is installed.
The time for install varies naturally, based on how large or small the game is on the disc, but I’ve found it to take no more than just a few minutes for many of the newest games to install.
Okay, everything you needed to do is done, you have the PS Jailbreak, its installed, you've put a game or two on your HDD, now it's time for the fun. Once you've installed the games you want on your hard drive, simply load up the backup manager again, and you're all set and ready to start playing. Now all you have to do is simply press the X button on the controller and start your game.
I am finding it much faster to load and play my games directly from the hard drive. Drakes Fortune was always one of my favorite games, but one that took ages to load. With the game on the hard drive, it takes less than one third of the time to load the game and levels. I'm honestly finding that games load about 10 to 20 times faster from the hard drive, then the disc itself. You’ll also notice that there is almost NO load time during the game, between levels and such.
If you already have a PS3 console, grab this little gem while it's available. And if you don't yet have a PS3, but plan on buying one, make sure you set aside some money to also add the PS Jailbreak to your must have accessory list. It'll let you get down to playing the game much faster due to less load times, and it also acts to protect your expensive PS3 games from getting scratched or damaged due to regualr use.
Can i buy an 500gb internal hard disk and then convert it to external rather than buying an external hard disk?
I KNOW DEAR IT WOULD BE CHEAPER FOR U,BUT THERE IS SUCH A MESS IN THAT.THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF DISCS,BASIC AND DYNAMIC.BASIC MEANS UR PC TREATS IT AS IT OWN AND DYNAMIC MEANS IT TERATS AS STRANGE.I WOULD SUGGEST U CAN DO IT AT BASIC DISC.BUT IF U WANT MORE REALIBILITY THEN GO FOR EXTERNAL DISC.I USE MY 1TB INTERNAL DISC AS EXTENAL,FURTHER DETAILS CONTANT ME.
