The difference is the speed and the connectivity and I am not bothered about the speed but is there any advantage of having SATA over IDE ? and what dvd drive do you think is better ?

SATA is much faster, but older computers don't have SATA controllers on the motherboard. An external USB 2.0 burner would cost more but you could take it with you when you upgrade/replace your computer. The one below requires two usb ports because it is port powered, but it requires no power adapter.
