I've got a couple of internal hard drives(3.5 inch IDE?)from my old desktop lying around and would like to use them as external portable hard drives for storage/backup/transfer files in bulk from laptop to laptop. I usually buy my pc stuff from Ebuyer.com and if anyone can point me in the right direction...
What I'm looking for, and I've seen them before is a stand with a slot which allow me to insert/remove/swap my old hard drives as and when I want. There is a USB cable coming out from the other end of the stand so I could plug it to laptops etc to read/write/copy. Basically this thing converts internal hard drives into portable ones.
What are they called? Names would be helpful but web links would be even better. Hopefully I've explained well enough. Thank you.
How do I tell if mine are IDE or SATA hard drives? Sorry if this sounds dumb.
You are talking about a drive caddy - you can get them on eBay for about £5
SATA and IDE are easy to tell apart - IDE will have a row of 40 pins in a rectangle, and use a ribbon connector. SATA connectors are L shaped and small and use a relatively thin cable.
