Boston Hospital Scene Of First Full Face Transplant In U.S.
The very first full face transplant in America was recently performed. A team in excess of 30 individuals carried out the procedure at a Boston hospital. The patient was a 25 year old male named Dallas Wiens, who was horribly disfigured in a 2008 accident that left him blind and without any facial features to speak of. Facial transplants have only become possible in the past decade, and Wiens’ is among the very first full-facial transplants ever carried out.
15 hour surgery gives male a brand new face in Texas
In 2008, Dallas Wiens suffered a horrific accident while employed as a construction worker in Fort Worth, Texas, according to the New York Daily News. He got electrocuted when his head touched power lines after losing control of a boom lift. Most of Wiens' face was scorched off, and he spent three months in a coma. There were skin grafts put on his face by doctors. His nose and ears were burned off all the way. The accident also left Wiens blind. There was a tissue donation made so that a Boston, Mass., team could do a facial transplant. Brigham and Women’s Hospital did the surgery. A surgical team of more than 30 was headed by Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, a plastic surgeon. The procedure, according to MSNBC, lasted nearly 15 hours and is the very first full-facial transplant carried out in the United States.
Covered by DOD after request
Mr. Wiens had reached the limits of his Medicaid coverage. During the accident, he didn’t have health insurance while Medicare covered the two dozen procedures that took place. However, the cost of his previous surgeries and disability benefits had put him over the limit for Medicaid coverage. The DOD said it would pay for some of the transplant procedure as part of research for Wiens. Until he dies, Wiens could have to continue taking immunosuppressants. This will make it so his body accepts the new face. Several are calling the brand new health care “Obama Care.” It is because of a provision in this that Wiens will, until he is 26 and can get on Medicare, be on his father’s insurance. A new nose, lips and ears will be put on Wiens although he will stay blind.
Total facial transplant had not been done in the U.S. previously
Wiens, 25, is the first male to receive a total facial transplant in the United States. In 2006, a partial transplant was done in Spain as the very first facial transplant ever. In 2009 in France, the first full facial transplant occurred. Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston had a facial transplant done before. It was in 2009 and was only a partial transplant. In the U.S., the first facial transplant happened in 2008. Connie Culp was shot in 2004 leaving her with a disfigured face, and she got the partial transplant done.

Does Sephora charge you for a full face makeover?
I'm going to prom in a couple of days and I wanted to get a full face make-over done by a professional make-up artist. Is it free? Or do you have to pay or buy something in return? If so how much?
I believe you must make a purchase of $50+ and you need to make an appointment too!
