How do I combine partitions to create one hard drive disk space on my external HDD?

I recently took my internal hard drive out of my old laptop to create a new external hard drive. The IDE drive has two partitions and I want to know if I can combine them to make one partition on the now external IDE hard drive.

it's simple

plug it in

go to Windows Explorer (Not IE),

go to the drive

move all the files that you want to keep off of the drive

close Windows Explorer

open Disk Management
> Start > Run > Diskmgmt.msc

select the correct drive delete all logical drives partitions

create one new partition

format it

and send the files back
